Funnel Cloud

June 22, 2014

Kokomo Funnel Cloud Pictures

That first picture is via Janel Leigh on Facebook. A rope-shaped funnel cloud appeared on the east/southeast side of Kokomo Sunday evening. Reports came in from Boulevard and Goyer, and to the southeast of the Meijer parking lot on Markland. Observers say the funnel cloud was visible for 3-4 minutes. I have seen no reports […]

Indiana’s Weather For Wednesday

Indianapolis reached 84 already by 3pm, meaning that today will officially at least tie for the warmest day of the year so far. The record is 87, and may be tough to reach with some clouds around from showers that popped up a little after lunch. Nothing like yesterday’s storms. This month is off to […]

Monday’s Severe Storms

This is a shot of the Bell Tower at Purdue on Monday afternoon, as rotating thunderstorms moved through. Here’ s a pic of some of the hail that fell in West Lafayette. Tippecanoe County reported several funnel cloud sightings, including one nearly touching the ground by the Tippecanoe Mall along US 52. Wind gusts also […]

Cold Air Funnels Over The Weekend

There were some reports of tornadoes in Delaware County Saturday evening, which probably reflect sightings of “cold air funnels.” Conditions were favorable for them to develop, within a cold-core, broad area of low pressure spinning away. The storms that spawn them aren’t very “tall” and the cold air funnel circulation seldom makes contact with the […]

Another Johnson County Funnel

Sirens sounded just after 2:30pm  today in Johnson County, because of a public report, which proved accurate, of a funnel cloud in the vicinity of Ind. 135 and Johnson County Road 500 North. The Weather Service did not issue a warning.  There was no circulation detected by radar, but it’s not immediately clear to me […]

Saturday Storm Damage

Thousands lost their power from Saturday evening storms. No tornadoes were sighted, but Emergency Management reported a funnel cloud 6 miles southwest of Logansport at 6:50pm. Radar indicated the possibility of a tornado around 8:30 in Morgan and Johnson Counties, so a Tornado Warning was issued. Here’s a summary:
