The “Blizzard Of ’78” was peaking 34 years ago today. Winds gusted to 55mph, and up to 20 inches of snow fell around Central Indiana, with up to 40 inches in the northern part of the State. The wicked wind caused 15-20 foot drifts, and wind chills down to 50 below zero.
The storms set a record for snowfall from a single storm in Indianapolis, where 15.5 inches was recorded. That month brought 30.6 inches of total snow! (By comparison, that would be twice what we had in the snowy December of 2010.) It was bad enough to shut down the airport, and bring out the National Guard.
I brought up The Topic on Facebook, and all sorts of memories came back to life.

I was born on the livingroom floor of my parents’ house on Jan. 26, 1978! We couldn’t get to the hospital until the next day when an Army vehicle was dispatched to us. In the meantime, they wrapped me up like a baked potato in blankets and tinfoil to keep warm. Crazy!
