It’s been exactly one week since the Indianapolis high temperature went above 70. And it’s been exactly one week since the average temperature has been above normal.
High pressure starts the day drifting over Kentucky and Tennessee. That should make for a cold – but brighter weather, and that should make a lot of Lilly employees happy. It’s their “Day of Service,” and that means a lot of red shirts. Around 8,000 Lilly employees will be picking up trash, painting fences and marking parking spots at Fairgounds, and cleaning debris from around Fall Creek from Senate to 39th street. They won’t have to work in the mud.
Dry weather continues tonight, despite another cold front zipping through the state. The front brings little more than clouds here, but a center of low pressure will ride along the front to our southwest. Severe storms with large hail are possible tonight in southern Missouri and Kansas, as well as northern Oklahoma and Arkansas.
Main effect from this clipper will be to shave off a few degrees from Friday’s highs, especially in the northern half of the state. This temperature back-and-forth continues into the weekend, with the biggest numbers we’ve seen in over a week.
High school football weather this week will be 100 percent better than last week’s cold and relentless rain.
The arrival of a warm front Saturday could pop a few showers in the northern third of the state by afternoon as it lifts to the north. The timing in central Indiana probably points to just a mix of clouds and sun. The real action arrives late Saturday night into Sunday.
Severe storms will develop Saturday afternoon across the central Plains. A squall line may move into our area by early Sunday. It could re-strengthen, and damaging winds are at least a potential threat for the second half of the weekend. The jet stream continues to look frisky this weekend. A second mini “season” of severe weather in the Fall is not uncommon in our state. At any rate, you can expect big breezes Sunday, with gusts up to 40 mph.

I thought the play Holes was a lot like the movie. I liked the part where Zero and Caveman are clnbmiig up the mountain. I also liked the parts where they’d go back in time to see how Caveman’s No Good Dirty Great Great Grandfather cursed his family. Zig Zag is my favorite because he’s REALLY hyper! The play was fantastic!!!
