UPDATED Thursday Feb 25: Yesterday’s .5″ snow means our seasonal total is now 32.7 inches. We now have the 7th snowiest season on record in Indianapolis. Today will be the 20th in a row with at least an inch of snow on the ground. We are likely to also move into that top 10 list by the weekend, even with no new accumulating snow.
A tweeter named @aprildgregory writes: “@PaulPoteet please settle a dispute for me Mr. Weatherman. Thus far, how does this winter compare to those in recent past. Mostly snow wise.”
April: This is already the 10th snowiest season ever, as of Tuesday morning February 23.

We’ve also had more than an inch of snow on the ground–as of today–for 18 consecutive days. You still have to go pretty far to compete with the legendary winters of the late 70’s.

Having grown up in South Bend in the 70s, where snow was on the ground November-April and we’d get 32.2 inches in a month sometimes, I am flat astonished to find that this year ranks high among snowy Indy winters!
