MIDDAY UPDATE:
Periods of rain and embedded thunder will continue through early afternoon, mainly south of I-70. By mid to late afternoon most showers should be confined to places southeast of Indy. Showers and storms become likely again in the early evening around South Bend and Lafayette and into the Indy Metro after sunset.
(EARLIER)
Rain could stain any of several big events today. College football kicks in as the Indians wrap up, and the Eleven continue. It’s night number two for Luke at Klipsch, and the first of two for the Preservation Hall Jazz Band at Conner Prairie. Unsettled weather will be with us, and you’ll just have to double check the dop. (May I recommend My Huge Radar?)
Tailgaters for Purdue or IU or Ball State may see a little rain or hear rumbles of thunder in the morning. One piece of energy around an upper level low to our northwest will rotate through in the morning. That chance should diminish by late morning. The sun should pop out for awhile, and could cook a few scattered afternoon storms. The next best chance would come from another wave Saturday night into early Sunday morning. Nothing severe is expected, but we could see heavy rainfall. I hope the people using the rain checks from LAST Saturday night at Conner Prairie don’t get rained out on another Saturday night.
Sunday starts with gloomy clouds and a few lingering showers, especially southeast of Indy. The clouds should thin, and there’s just a slight storm chance by afternoon, and Sunday evening should be good to go for the grill.
Slight storm chances on Labor Day, but I think the worst will wait until evening, as a surface front arrives from the northwest. Looks like a good chance Tuesday, and a lingering slight chance Wednesday. The first week of September features a few more shots at 90 degree weather.
