The rain is gone and so is the humid weather, at least for a few days. Both will return just in time for the weekend, but today features a mostly sunny sky and highs about ten degrees below average. Speaking of below average: our month-to-date temp in July is holding at 70.7, which is low enough for the 2nd coolest July ever. The only above average days in the seven day forecast are this weekend. (Two weekend mentions in the first paragraph. You’d think something big was going on!)
Highs today will range from 74-77 across central Indiana. And high pressure will drift from around Milwaukee Thursday morning to southern Ohio Friday morning. That helps keep the forecast mostly clear through tomorrow morning. There will a few fair weather cumulus clouds around this afternoon.
Clouds will increase along with humidity Friday night as a warm from approaches. Shower and storm chances will enter the western third of the state in the evening and spread across central Indiana overnight. There might be some showers left over in the morning, then we’ll probably see a pause for much of the day, allowing temps to jump back into the mid and upper 80s.
Storms could fire later Saturday afternoon and evening. The Storm Prediction Center has Indiana under a slight risk for severe weather. As we wait on a cold front Sunday, more storms are possible. The better chance will be in the afternoon. If you’re going to the Brickyard, prepare for hotter weather compare to last year. Then: drier and back to the 70s next week.
Storm chances this weekend: 30% most of Saturday, 50% later Saturday afternoon and evening, 40% Sunday.
Wednesday’s rain was concentrated right around the Indy metro area and southward yesterday. The official amounts were under a tenth of an inch in Lafayette and Muncie, but Indy made it to 1.61 inches, and Bloomington had 1.66 inches. It was the biggest single-day rain total in Indy since the 4th of June, which was also a Wednesday, FWIW.
