A friend of mine who is still in television passed on the recent comment of a worried anchor: “If I get fired, I could always do what Paul does.” On Saturday I’m supposed to keynote at Blog Indiana and explain how 30+ years in Old Media led up to what I do now. So, my question to you: What do I do here? Why do you follow me? Are you looking for weather, one liners, wacky pictures, the videos?

Paul, to answer your question, I follow you on the interweb because of your humor. Always quick with a one-liner and very humorous/insightful observations on what “old media” considers to be news. Your humor is a daily reminder not to take life too seriously.
On the other hand, it is interesting to see how you have publicly made a successful transition from old to new media. I suspect you’re probably one of the hardest working guys around, as you seem to be online (FB, Twitter) and on the radio around the clock. Also, you are very interactive with your audience. I enjoy getting to see and hear more of your sense of humor–it came across on RTV-6, but you could tell there was a lot bottled up. Thinking of a doing a Letterman?
Paul says
No Letterman, much to relief of Mrs. P. lol…Thanks Darrick.

Paul.. You’ve brought up a very good point. A lot of central Indiana has watched you for years morph into what you are still morphing into. Wait, that didn’t make any sense. Although we are not involved in the inner workings of your transitions.. to us they have seemed easy and smooth.. You continue to represent the “Hoosier” in us all. You are becoming the “Indiana Personality”. Not the race car driver, not the Mayor and not the quarterback. You are the Indiana Personality. Indiana is known for it’s comfortable porches and big, relaxing yards with a hammock thrown up over on the shady side.. I’m not saying you’re shady, I’m saying you’re you represent the big yard. One day croquet, the next day volleyball or flag football.. You don’t have to only play one game in that big yard.
So, whether it’s radio, tv, comedy or on-line you represent the Indiana spirit with the ability to smile during transitions. I think a lot of people probably follow you because they have grown up with you and have come to know that what you say deserves to be heard in what ever forum you use that day. You ARE Indiana’s Paul Poteet.
Paul says
That’s one wild metaphor lol. I read your comment at Blog Indiana yesterday.

Well, first since we did work together at WLFI and WGLM (I was the board op on your cyber-show). I’m also studying what you do and trying to find my own place in this brave new world.
You had the foresight back in the mid-90s to populate your own space..very few did at the time. So when the change came at 6, you had a built in audience, so instead of sending tapes all over the country to land a weather gig in another market, you had the online space and connections to hit the ground running.
Being easy to work with undoubtedly helps. Always enjoyed working with you back in Lafayette.

Thanks Brad!
