Once the snow stops falling tomorrow, the next thing to watch will be the temperatures falling tomorrow night. A few things will be different this time compared to the snow-then-cold hit we took in early January. First, the temperatures will be cold, but not THAT cold. And they won’t get that cold THAT fast. Recall the after the big January snow we were below zero about six hours after the significant snow ended. This time it will be more like 18-24 hours, which should help in the snow fighting effort on roads.
3:00pm
NWS Indy has just re-issued the Warnings, with the same expiration time and essentially the same forecast. There were indications from some computer modeling that more moisture could be available so they are cautioning a few spots could get beyond 10 inches. If that would happen I think the best chance would be generally northeast of Indy. In any event: at this point it appears more likely that the final totals will tilt toward the upper range. Travel WILL be difficult this evening. Snowfall intensity may approach 2 inches per hour.
2:30pm
And here we go!
1:30pm
The Winter Storm Warning is now in effect until 1pm tomorrow. A chance of snow in the early part of the afternoon rush hours, with snow becoming likely by 4 or 5pm. Snow this evening may fall at the rate of an inch an hour. The heaviest snow will move east of the area between 1am and 3am. Lighter snow could linger through Wednesday morning. Winds will gust to around 25 mph from the northeast tonight and tomorrow morning. Sleet and freezing rain will mix with the snow to the southeast, cutting into totals. The overall snow forecast remains the same – 6 to 10 inches for many in the heart of central Indiana.
