A WINTER STORM WARNING starts late tonight and goes all day Sunday. (It starts this evening in northwest Indiana.)
Snow will begin overnight in central Indiana. The Indy area could have a couple inches on the ground by 7am Sunday. The snow will continue falling through the day, diminishing in the early evening and leaving behind a large area of 8-12″ accumulation. Totals will be on the lower side in the northwestern quarter of the state, from Lafayette northward up to around Gary and South Bend, where most spots should 6-10 inches.
Winds will become gusty Sunday afternoon, gusting from the northwest at 35-40 mph, and causing blowing and drifting snow along with reduced visibility.
Bitterly cold air will begin moving in. Sunday temps will start in the upper 20s in the morning and fall to about 20 by 6pm. By 9pm the air temps will fall to the teens, and the wind chills will go below zero – where they will remain until Wednesday afternoon.
By Monday morning the temperature will have fallen to between 10 and 15 below zero and REMAIN THERE all day, bottoming out to around 20 below by Tuesday morning. Wind chills will run 30-45 below zero at times Monday and Tuesday.
