This year was certainly cooler and wetter than the year before, and it has only a few hours on the clock before we start all over again tomorrow. And we will start with snow. First things first. The last day of 2013 will be quiet and cold. A big spread in highs across central Indiana: expect mid 20s from Lafayette over to Muncie, and temps around 30 along the I-70 corridor from Terre Haute to Richmond. The high will be around freezing in Bloomington and Columbus. Snow will start before the new year does in the northern quarter of the state. I think that will stay out of central Indiana, but if you have party plans in Lafayette or Kokomo or Muncie it might be wise to do the doppler double-check before hitting the road tonight. The biggest shot at snow for central Indiana will be later Wednesday afternoon into Thursday morning. A broad area of 2-4 inch snowfall looks likely. The snow should diminish Thursday afternoon, and Friday will be bright and brisk, with a fresh snowpack helping the low temp to sink to single digits. Don’t be fooled by a (small) temperature recovery Saturday. The coldest air of the season looks ready to invade Monday, and just before it does – the potential of a couple more inches of snow Sunday.
