It was a dark and stormy night. And historic, too, with 2.01″ of rain at the Indy Airport. That smashed the previous Halloween high water mark of 1.30 inches in 1941. The peak Indy wind gust was 58 mph. A trained spotter measured a 75 mph gust near Muncie. A tornado watch was issued, but no Transylvania Twisters were reported in Indiana. The sprawling storms did generate tornadoes in Texas and Louisiana, along with two unconfirmed reports from Illinois. Today will be much quieter – until the neighborhood kids start ring your bell tonight. When they do, the weather will be dry and not as windy. An upper level low brings clouds and a few sprinkles to the north half of the state, including Indy after midnight tonight trough Saturday. It will be brighter Sunday. Yesterday’s rainfall was the most in one day in Indianapolis since April 18. Other totals and peak gusts: Terre Haute: 2.42 inches, 41 mph gust Lafayette: 1.51 inches, 39 mph gust Muncie: 1.18 inches, 56 mph gust Bloomington: 1.31 inches, 41 mph gust Rainfall totals were lower around Richmond.
