Two inches of rain fell in two hours very early this morning in Lafayette. The total of 2.13 inches is more than fell ALL of last month. The 1.52 inches of rain today in Indianapolis is the most since May 18. About an inch of that fell in the hour between 6 and 7 am. The year-to-date deficit going into today was 0.96″ of an inch. Well done, Ma Nature! Heavy rain also fell early in Muncie, where the toal was .91 of an inch. The bad news? Lightning strikes are suspected in a few fires across central Indiana. No severe weather is expected today, but thunderstorms with heavy rain and lightning could return at any point through the day on a scattered basis. Heat and humidity both increase over Wednesday’s levels. We’re waiting on a cold front that will focus another line of showers and storms into the area Friday afternoon and evening. There’s a slight risk of severe weather. Weekend weather still looks promising, with plenty of sunshine and a return to temperatures just a little below average. INDY ALMANAC: Today’s average high is 76 and the average low is 55. Records are 93 and 38. The sun rises at 7:29 and it sets at 7:48. PAUL’S PREVIOUS PREDICTION: Yesterday’s high was 81. My forecast was 81. DETAILED INDIANAPOLIS FORECAST: Today: Partly sunny, hot and humid with scattered shower and storm chances. More humid. High 86.
