Another pleasant start for Indiana’s weather today, but warmer air is coming. Here’s an interesting twist. Last year’s historic heat makes this Summer look like nothing, but last year’s heat also packed up promptly in September. The highest Indy temp in September 2012 was 88. THIS year? Could be higher than that next week. Humidity will also rise during the day tomorrow and be a factor next week for at least a few days. No rain is expected today or tomorrow. Mensurable rain has only fallen on four days since the start of August in Indy. The crunchy grass has inspired crunching numbers at the Indiana State Climate Office. They published a chart they constructed showing the percentage of precipitation received from August 5th to September 3rd, relative to the average. Most of central Indiana’s only gotten 25-50% of normal. It’s a little better to the southeast and east, including Richmond, with 50-75% of average. This week’s Drought Monitor is now showing a “moderate drought” for a portion of northwest Indiana just west of Lafayette. Good news? We’ve got at least a chance of showers late Saturday night and Sunday from a passing cold front. The threat looks larger from another system in the middle of next week. (I show you those charts in Friday’s weather video.) INDY ALMANAC: The average high today is 81 and the average low is 60. Records are 99 and 44. The sun rises at 7:18 and sets at 8:08.
