During this week of Thanksgiving I give thanks for my years of working alongside legendary television meteorologist Bob McLain. One habit of Bob’s I noticed early was that he would actually walk outside and look up and around before a broadcast. SEEMS obvious, right? It’s very easy to spend all your time staring at monitors and models instead of the actual conditions the forecast will spring from.
So when Mr. Weatherman wakes up in the middle of the night he looks out the little window of the front door on his way downstairs to the coffee maker. This morning’s glance revealed my mistake about today’s weather maker. I thought it would simply produce an overcast sky…but this morning’s look outside revealed wet pavement. Not much fell..just .01″ at the Indianapolis Airport.
A few sprinkles are possible today, and those clouds will remain thick. This system moves off to the east early Wednesday. Tomorrow and Thanksgiving still look awesome, with temperatures roughly ten degrees above average, and plenty of sunshine.
Drumstick Dash-ing with me Thursday morning for Wheeler Mission in Broad Ripple? This will be the tenth annual race, and it may be the best in terms of weather. I would estimate about 47 degrees at the 9am start time, with a sunny sky and a 5-10 mph wind from the south.
The next front arrives with shower chances Thursday night into Friday morning. The cold front will be past us by Friday midday. The tree lighting will be dry Friday evening, and it will be seasonably cold. Partly cloudy skies and chills in the upper 20s.
COAST TO COAST:
No huge headaches for going over the river and through the woods east of the Rockies. Much of the country will have above average temperatures. Flying to Denver? Mid 60s there. Upper 70s in Dallas, and around 70 in ATL.
Nasty weather continues in the northwest, with up to 8 inches of rain from the storm. Seattle and Portland could see 1-2 inches today.
INDY ALMANAC:
The average high today is 50 and the average low is 33. Records are 75 and 8. Sunrise time is 7:36 and the sunset comes at 5:26.
PAUL’S PREVIOUS PREDICTION:
Yesterday’s high was 58. The forecast was 59.
