I can’t predict the scores, but I can take a shot at the weather. Both IU and Purdue will enjoy game-time temps in the low 70s for their respective contests in Bloomington and Iowa City, Iowa. Beats sleet!
Sleet and rain is SO “last Saturday.” Today’s high will be approximately 30 degrees warmer.
Credit a strong southerly flow. You’ll notice that warm air if you’re out today. Winds will gust up to 25 mph this afternoon, and 30 mph Sunday. Differences in air pressure drive our winds, and we’ve got two big players fighting it out on today’s weather map.
A big, fat area of high pressure has plopped itself over the eastern USA, which is really really really good news for weather-weary folks there. NYC is expecting 50s today and 60s tomorrow.
That high is battling a big time low and associated cold front in the Plains. It could bring severe weather today, (including heavy snow in the Rockies) and it will bring us rain and maybe some thunder by later Sunday night into Monday morning.
Air generally moves clockwise around high pressure systems, and counter-clockwise around lows. Look at a weather map today and you’ll see a low to the left, and a high to the right. Here we are–stuck in the middle–and MILD!
We need to hit 75 to break a record today. Indy hasn’t been above 70 since October 25. And we won’t get above 70 again for awhile. That aforementioned cold front slams the door on the warmer weather just as you open the garage door and head to work Monday morning. Temps will be colder than average most of next week.
No big storms after Monday. The late Sunday/Monday morning front shouldn’t bring severe weather, but it could bring around an inch of rain. We could use it. The year-to-date deficit has crept back up over 2 inches in Indy.
