We will be hover around one-hundred again today, and we may break another record. I know: Mister Weatherman talking about broken records…is a broken record.
INDY 100 DEGREE DAYS GOING INTO WEDNESDAY:
12 – Summer of 1936
10 – Summer of 1934
7 – Summer of 2012
5 – Summer of 1988
4 – Summer of 1954
Today’s record high is from one of the “top five” summers: 100, from 1954.
Tuesday’s thermometer in Indianapolis reached 101. That broke a record from 1887. Indy has also tied/broken 8 daily high temp records since late June.
Also in the mile-high temperature club yesterday: Ft. Wayne, at 100 degrees. Terre Haute matched Indy’s 101 degree high. Today will be the 16th day of 95+ temperatures this summer in Indianapolis.
One more record to note: Wednesday’s morning low above 70 is the 21st consecutive day of lows at 70 degrees or higher. THAT breaks a record from 1921.
Enough with the broken records!
The Heat Advisory ends at 8pm tonight. Then: not as hot for a few days.
We will see scattered showers and storms Wednesday afternoon and evening from generally unstable conditions. Late tonight and Thursday a surface frontal system will be added to the mix, and it will keep the storm chances going all day Thursday.
Behind the front: less humid Friday and Saturday.
No rain fell at the Airport Tuesday, but over an inch fell in Hancock county, where the clouds weren’t as lonely as they were the day before. (I’ve attached a radar map of rainfall in the Metropolitan area.)
Hail and wind damage was reported between 6:30 and 6:45pm in Hancock County. Three-quarter inch sized hail was accompanied by gusts of 40-50mph in Fortville. Cumberland reported inch sized hail.
One inch size hail was reported in Bartholomew county in Jonesville. Quarter-inch size hail was reported in Pendleton in southern Madison County. Gusty winds in Owen County brought down tree limbs and caused a power outage in Gosport, and half-inch diameter hail was reported from Parker city, in Randolph county. (I’ve attached a map.)
