The good news is: Monday morning starts with a little breeze, and that may keep any frost from becoming widespread. The bad news is: that breeze produces some chills in the 20s. Winds will gust up to 35mph late in the morning and in the afternoon. You’ll see more sunshine today than yesterday. It’ll still be chilly tomorrow, and the best bet for rain this week is Wednesday. Nothing severe is expected. The weekend forecast is still fuzzy, so expect to see some changes on the right hand side the 7 Day Chart I post today:)
I just figured out why it seemed so dreary this weekend: Those were the coldest pair of weekend high temperatures since March 3rd and 4th….7 weeks ago!
The big weather player today is a huge, “nor’ easter” type system along the mid Atlantic coast. The battle between that low pressure and high pressure over the Plains is contributing to our chilly breeze. That eastern low will bring up to 4 inches of snow as far west as Pittsburgh today.
The problem with a snow like that…in a year like this? Heavy, wet snow could topple trees already in full bloom after early spring warmth. The weight of the snow, plus the additional force from high winds on trees with leaves, will likely lead to widespread downed trees and power lines. Drenching rain will pound the east coast cities from Boston to Washington. There’s a widespread drought in those areas, so that might cushion the muddy blow.
Meanwhile, it’s summer out West. Phoenix hit 105 yesterday, beating an old record of 99. (The average this time of year is 89.) It reached 99 degrees Sunday in Las Vegas, which is also a record. Similar temps are expected today. It they get to triple digits in Vegas it’ll be the first time on record in April. Suppose there’s any action on those odds?
