Today will be the warmest day in a week and half. The last time Indy was above 80 was March 22. Today’s forecast is 81, and the record high is 83, set back in 1946. Enjoy while you can, because it only lasts a day. In fact, I think we’ll be slightly below average Thursday and Thursday night. There could be a little patchy frost north and northeast of Indianapolis Thursday night into Friday morning.
I’m attaching both the 6-10 day, and 8-14 day temperature outlooks to this post. Notice we finally leave “above average” temperature territory on the 8–14 day, which would cover April 10-16th. Will we end up with more 70s/80s in March than April? Stay tuned. I don’t see any for at least a week after today.
Today’s special because we’ve managed to work ourselves into the “warm sector” between a warm front and a cold front.” That front focuses showers and storms into Indiana later today. Things could start popping in the late afternoon, especially in the northwestern quarter of the state. Chances everywhere tonight, and the Storm Prediction Center puts most of the state into a slight risk. Your biggest threats are (again) hail, and maybe some gusty winds. The threat should ease by late evening.
The 6-10 day precipitation outlook is a little above average from Indy southward. I think the reason is mainly low pressure chugging through the southeastern states the next few days. It brings a chance of showers Wednesday night from around Indy southward, and a slight chance north of Indianapolis. Thursday through Saturday daytime look sweet. Our next cold front should trigger some showers and storms Saturday night.
Me and Mrs. Poteet took our Spring Break just before Christmas at South Beach, so I’m mentally visiting South Padre in Texas this morning as I type. Just in case you’re reading the STAR on your tablet on the beach…get ready to get ripped today! There’s a moderate risk of Rip currents, with 3-5 foot waves possible. And don’t forget to turn so you don’t burn. The UV Index is “very high.” So are the temps, in the mid to upper 80’s today. Surf temperature of 77. Winds 10-20 mph. Ahhhhhhhhhhh.
They are serving just a light chop on the Miami beaches today. Lots of sun and 85. Speaking of chops, and anything else that reminds me of food, we found the restaurants-to-people ratio at South Beach to be off the charts. Some of the prices were, also. If you’re running out of money this week, try “Big Pink” or “Pizza Rustica,” just a couple blocks west of “the strip.” Might want to eat inside if you’re doing Panama City. Chance of showers and storms, and low 80’s. Tomorrow looks better, but there’s a chance again Thursday.
If the plan is to get home for the bonnets and baskets Sunday, you’ll return to temperatures a bit above average for Indiana’s Easter Sunday. A front will be crossing the state Sunday morning, so an early morning shower could still be possible, left over from Saturday night. Of course, the left overs from Sunday will be more of the Cadbury-and-egg-salad variety.
