Two early Monday morning tornadoes have been confirmed in southern Indiana by the National Weather Service. One struck in Dubois County just west of Hayesville. The EF-1 tornado had maximum winds of 97 mph. The second tornado was confirmed near Paoli with an EF-1 rating and maximum winds of 95 mph.
The statewide 2023 tornado count now stands at 48. Many of these came during the March 31-April 1 outbreak, which produced 23 in the state. We’re above average. Last year there were only 15 tornadoes. Between 1991 and 2020, the state had an average of 25 tornadoes per year.
