I was asked yesterday on Facebook about how unusual it is for Indy to have snow on the first of April. It’s not unusual, if I may quote the great meteorologist Tom Jones. Here are the stats:
Average Date of First Measurable Snowfall: November 19
Average Date of Last Measurable Snowfall: March 30
Earliest Date of First Measurable Snowfall: October 18, 1989
Latest Date of Last Measurable Snowfall: May 9, 1923
The cold snap bottoms out Friday morning, and temps will be near average Saturday, and back above average Easter Sunday.
FRIDAY MORNING LOWS
20 | Terre Haute and Bloomington
21 | Lafayette
22 | Muncie and Indy (Indy record is 20 from 1961)
The long range trends through early Summer look warmer than average.
