First things first. (I’m the realist.) Today’s temps will slowly fall to freezing by late afternoon. Winds will be gusty, and an upper air disturbance will stir up snow this afternoon, but it’s in-and-out quickly, and (combined with the surface temps) is not likely to go beyond a dusting. Chills today will be in the 20s, then fall quickly into the teens this evening and around zero as you wake up Monday. Chills stay in the single digits Monday. A clipper arrives Monday night from the northwest. Snow could begin in the mid evening in South Bend and Lafayette, and will spread into central Indiana by late evening. Most of the accumulating snow will finish by lunch time Tuesday. The accumulation look typically “clipper-ish.” But it will be worse in The Bend. Michiana could see 1-3 inches of snow today, and then 4-7 inches from the clipper, followed by MORE Lake Effect Tuesday night and Wednesday. A foot of new snow could fall there in the next seven days. Post-clipper: cold air rolls in Tuesday Night, aided by a fresh snow pack. Then: brace yourself for these chills Wednesday: The nasty winds Wednesday will come as we transition quickly from low to high pressure. Notice how close together the isobar lines are around Indiana. The center of the high moves right over the area Wednesday Night and Thursday morning. Skies clear, and we get the coldest air temps of this stretch.
