Showers and storms will start the week, and moisture from Tropical Storm Simon could finish it off.
Temps will return to the 60s today, as we leave behind our first burst of cold air for the season that brought a Saturday high of 49 to Indy. That’s the lowest high (stop me if this is confusing) since April 7th. Winds gusted to 37 mph Saturday in Indy, making the first weekend in October feel more like December. The winds won’t be as wicked this week, but could gust to around 20 mph today and tomorrow. The Weather Service had issued Frost Advisories for parts of the state Sunday morning, but I didn’t see any reports from weather watchers. It certainly could have been frosty around Shoals in southwest Indiana, where the co-op observer reported a low of 32.
SUNDAY MORNING LOWS:
36 Bloomington
37 Lafayette
38 Terre Haute, South Bend, Ft. Wayne, Evansville
40 Indy
43 Muncie
Rain will remain in the forecast. A deep area of upper level pressure is locked and loaded over Canada, and waves will rotate around the low today and tomorrow. Some thunder is possible this afternoon.
We could see up to a third of an inch Monday and Tuesday. Rain amounts could be higher on Thursday with low pressure and a cold front. We should get a break Saturday, but there’s another chance Sunday as a fresh wave moves into Indiana, interacting with Tropical Storm Simon remnants. Add it all up and you have the potential of about three-quarters of an inch near South Bend to about two inches near Evansville.
RAINFALL SO FAR THIS MONTH:

2.97″ Lafayette
0.77″ Bloomington
0.74″ Ft. Wayne
0.44″ Muncie
0.42″ Indy
