The following map shows the area of a Dense Fog Advisory, in place until 10am. It run from Terre Haute through Tipton and Marion northward up to just south of South Bend. Visibility in those areas will fall to under a quarter-mile at times.
There could be a few isolated showers east and southeast of Indy today, from around Muncie down to Greensburg, and points east, including Richmond. Otherwise: more sun in the afternoon, and muggy conditions all week.
With 17 days of August in the can – there have only been two days where Indianapolis has been (barely) above average on temperature. Today could be our seventh consecutive below average day. But that stops Tuesday.
This week’s thermal turnaround will be driven in the late week and weekend by a big ridge of high pressure over the center of the country – the proverbial “ring of fire.” That means clusters of storms possibly dropping southeastward along the northeastern edge of the ridge into our state. The best chances will likely be north and northeast of Indy, which is actually a place that could still use a soaking.
But I’m ahead of myself. That’s more of a Thursday through Saturday thing. Our storm chance tomorrow is pegged to a couple of fronts moving through the state. Things should settle down quickly Tuesday night. It may be busy again Wednesday night into Thursday, and the chances are smaller (and our high temps higher) as the ridge strengthens Friday into the weekend. By Sunday the ridge moves enough that we can go without the slight storm chance – throw all caution to the wind – and forecast 93 for an Indy high. The highest we’ve hit so far this month is a measly 85. The highest for the year is 88. (A couple of times in June and once in July.)
**Terre Haute, Bloomington, and even Muncie have all had at least one day of 90+ weather this month.
