Fog at first for Monday, but it won’t last. (Neither will Monday, if that helps you.) Humidity levels will start rising today, and it should be just-plain-muggy tonight and tomorrow.
Yesterday stopped a five day streak of highs in the 80s in Indy, with a top temp of 81. Today will be much warmer, with 86-89 degree highs across the state. We have another shot at a 90 degree day tomorrow. Still hasn’t officially happened in Indy or Lafayette.
We went the entire summer of without a day in the 90s in 2004. The average is 14.6 days. That’s not happening this year, just between you and me. Every bit of long range data I’ve seen lately points to below-normal temperatures through the end of the year. There will be swings – such as today and tomorrow – but the general trend is cooler. In fact, Indy is in line for the coolest July on record at the moment, with an average temperature of 70.3 degrees. Of course, if you’re going to be below average, the normally-hottest part of the year (June 26-July 29 in Indy) is a good time to do it.
Most days in a year high of 90+ in Indy:
58 – 1983
55 – 1936
51 – 2012
No drought officially yet, but it’s safe to say lawns and flowers are thirsty. A cold front brings shower and storm chances Wednesday, but rain amounts are likely to stay at a quarter inch or less. There’s another round of rain possible this weekend, including Sunday at the Brickyard. Biggest chances arrive Saturday night.
INDY ALMANAC:
The average high today is 85 and the average low is 66. Records are 106 and 46. The sun rises at 6:34 and sets at 9:08.
