UPDATE:
a Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in place until 7pm Eastern for several nearby states as well as Indiana. Biggest risk right around Indy comes after 4pm. The Watch includes Indianapolis, Lafayette, Terre Haute, and Muncie. It doesn’t include Bloomington or Columbus or Richmond.
EARLIER:
I-70 strikes again! That familiar Indiana weather dividing-line separates wet from dry in the early hours of the new week. Bloomington recorded three-quarters of an inch of rain overnight. Storms had also fired over southeast Indiana Sunday afternoon.
Everyone in central Indiana has a shot at showers and storms later Monday afternoon and evening. Credit a cold front moving from around Chicago in the morning to the Ohio River by sunset. The Storm Prediction Center indicates a slight risk of severe weather south of a line from near Fort Wayne to Indy to south of Terre Haute. (OK, I-70 doesn’t work on that one.)
All the showers and storms should end by midnight, and the well-advertised cool spell settles in. We’ll be close to a record by Thursday morning.
MORNING LOWS IN INDY
Tuesday morning…Forecast: 57, Record: 51 from 1967.
Wednesday morning…Forecast: 54, Record: 49 from 1945.
Thursday morning…Forecast: 54, Record: 51 from 1976.
If you’re a casual gardener north of I-70 looking to water the top of your topsoil—today may be your last chance until next week. Meanwhile, some farmers have been writing me wondering when a nice long stretch of DRY weather is coming . I think they’ll make hay this week.
