Weather headlines include a risk for severe weather late tonight, and a big-time break from heat and humidity, just in time for the Fourth.
Storm chances start the day in the northern half of the state, as an upper level wave rotates through. There’s a lid on the atmosphere for the rest of the day, so other than some morning clouds, things are looking quiet. And muggy.
Another complex of storms should develop this evening to the west of Indiana closest to the surface low pressure system and a slow moving cold front. Some of that could move into the state overnight tonight and early Tuesday morning. The Storm Prediction Center has the area west and north of Indy under a slight risk for severe weather. The biggest risk will be I-70 northward, from damaging winds and torrential rainfall.
The cold front spends Tuesday trudging through the state and a slight risk will arise again in the afternoon and evening – this time from around Richmond to Columbus southward as the front rolls through.
Highs will be mostly in the 70s Wednesday behind the front, but there’s still a slight chance of one more round of afternoon and evening storms before the overall upper level pattern finally breaks down. Canadian high pressure settles in, and lows will be in the 50s Thursday and Friday morning! The Indy record low for Independence Day is 48 degrees.
