PLAINFIELD TORNADO:

Fog is the worst, first thing on Indiana’s Wednesday weather menu. Compared to yesterday? Today features more sunshine and less drama, but there is a chance of scattered storms this afternoon and early evening, thanks to an upper level low pressure system arriving later in the day.
The humidity dips tonight and Thursday, but don’t get used to it. Yesterday’s cold front will come back north as a warm on Friday, and humidity will be high this weekend. The arrival of that warm front could spell storms later Friday and Saturday. That surface front will be north of us by Sunday, but upper atmosphere ingredients mean there could still be a scattered shower or storm Sunday afternoon. Another front should arrive next Tuesday and Wednesday with more organized periods of storms.
The National Weather Service was already out last night surveying damage from the Plainfield tornado. Based on what they saw the twister was categorized as “EF-1” meaning winds of 90-100 mph. The tornado took an approximate two mile path from Plainfield toward Indianapolis. It touched down near Perry Road and US40 in Plainfield at approximately 232 PM. The first significant damage occurred at a vehicle auction facility with one building heavily damaged and over 200 cars impacted by flying debris.
The tornado traveled northeast causing damage to nearly two dozen homes in Hendricks County with the most severe damage along County Road 200S near County Road 1050E. At this location the tornado lofted a camping trailer into a house and also removed a substantial portion of that houses roof. The tornado continued tracking northeast through the Bentwood subdivision in east Hendricks County and into the Cameron Meadows subdivision of Indianapolis. The most significant damage in Indianapolis was along Raceway Road near Blue Pine Drive where a couple homes had portions of their roofs removed by the tornado. The tornado lifted at approximately 240 PM in this subdivision though intermittent straight-line wind damage to trees occurred from there to near Rockville Road and I-465 all the way to the town of Speedway. Indianapolis officials estimated 75 to 100 homes received at least minor damage in Indianapolis. (Map attached.) It was the only tornado reported across the country yesterday. One is enough.
