Today’s the sixth consecutive above-average day for central Indiana, with highs in the low to mid 80s. The best addition to today’s weather is the subtraction of humidity. The slow-moving front of the last few days is now down along the Ohio River. The farther from that front – the lower the humidity.
Heavy rain yesterday along that front brought flood advisories for Vermillion, Parke, and Fountain counties. More than an inch of rain was reported in Putnam county, but if you were north of Indy you stayed dry.
And you’ll stay dry through the weekend, with the jet stream so far to the north. Humidity shouldn’t be a big issue this weekend. The big ridge above us should crack enough to allow fronts to get close again much of next week, so I have daily scattered storm chances in the forecast. A generally quiet severe season continues for us. Today’s the tenth anniversary of a tornado outbreak that race fans will remember. One of the 23 tornadoes in the state was an F-2 that damaged the southeast side of Indy as crowds were still leaving the “500.”
The Indiana weather stats for May are about to show something they haven’t shown since September…above normal numbers. It won’t be above average by very much, but it’s something. Last month was exactly average, so at least the constant chill of our historic winter didn’t linger into spring.
