Welcome back to the old routine. Spoiler alert: if you’re already looking forward to the next (shorter) weekend – the weather will be great again, with comfortable humidity and plenty of sun.
In the meantime: summertime! The atmosphere is a little muggy, with above average temperatures and storm chances through Thursday. Highs today will be in the mid 80s all over central Indiana.
Here’s the setup: we are on the edge of an upper air ridge, which is generally associated with quieter weather. At the same time an upper level low is moving very slowly through the southern Plains. At the surface, there’s a cold front in the Great Lakes. Neither that front or the upper low will be big players for us today, but they are helping to feed moisture into our area, and that should cause some storms to fire late this afternoon, especially from Indy northward. No severe weather is expected, but locally heavy rain is possible.
That cold front moves slowly through the state Wednesday, and that’s when we see the widest coverage of showers and storms in central Indiana. The plodding front still means storm chances Thursday, although the biggest threat is probably Indy southward. No severe weather is expected, but the slow moving storms do have the potential for torrential rain.
Our post-frontal Friday looks sweet, and that will continue into the weekend!
