A cold front finally finished moving through central Indiana early Thursday, dropping dew points, stopping showers, and starting a five stretch of nice weather that coincides nicely with the biggest weekend in Indianapolis.
The wind shifts today to the northwest around 15 mph, bringing in a fresh flow of drier air. The humidity will be noticeably lower, and I don’t see it getting sticky again until Memorial Day. Highs will be around 74 in Lafayette and Muncie, 75 in Richmond, and 76 in Indy. Upper 70s are likely in Terre Haute, Bloomington, and Columbus.
It wasn’t all that bad around Lafayette or Muncie or Richmond, but that cold front pounded the Indianapolis metropolitan area with heavy rain and large hail yesterday. It typically takes golf ball size hail (1.75 inch) to dent cars, and that was reported in Marion, Boone, and Fountain counties. General reports of large hail triggered storm warnings all over the state. Winds gusted to 60 mph in Marion and Hendricks county.
WEDNESDAY RAIN:
1.87″ Indianapolis
1.21″ Bloomington
0.88″ Shelbyville
0.18″ Terre Haute
0.06″ Lafayette
Trace Muncie
The next precipitation shouldn’t arrive until Tuesday, but I would keep an eye on Monday’s forecast. The upper air ridge could start breaking down by then, and that’s the only day in the long weekend forecast that I think could change.
