Expect periods of rain Friday morning, landing first in the west and southwest part of the state. It will arrive by midday around Muncie and Richmond. There should be a pause in the precipitation in the afternoon. One more round of rain late this afternoon and early this evening could produce thunderstorms that are severe, with damaging winds as the biggest threat.
The severe risk is concentrated along and just before a surface cold front. Those showers and storms should be out by sun-up Saturday, as the cold front passes and stalls along the Ohio River. About a half-inch to three-quarters of an inch of rain is expected today, and winds will gust to 30 mph.
Tomorrow’s the best day of the weekend. This will be the *sixth* consecutive Saturday with no measurable precipitation in Indy! (There was a trace overnight last Saturday.) Temps will be warm but not hot, and there will be some sun for the Gran Prix and all the outdoor graduation ceremonies.
Sunday – not so sweet for Mom. That front from Friday moves back north as a warm front early in the day. There will likely be a period of showers and storms in the morning, hopefully breaking up by afternoon, as highs close in on 80 again.
I think Monday will be mainly dry, with just scattered storms. Tuesday brings a cold front that means business. Showers and storms are likely, and this time a much cooler air mass will follow the front, bringing a few days of highs in the 60s.
