Another day in the mid 80s is ahead, with Speedway sunshine for those taking advantage of free admission to today’s Gran Prix practice session. Consider yesterday and today’s weather as our practice session for Summer. Wednesday”s high of 83 in Indy tied for the warmest temperature since last September 12.
WEDNESDAY HIGHS
86 Lafayette
85 Evansville
84 Muncie & Bloomington
83 Indy, Richmond & Terre Haute
81 South Bend
All of central Indiana will end up the mid 80s today. Once again the breeze will be gusty from around lunch time through the afternoon. The highest gust was 31 mph yesterday. Should be about the same today. High clouds will thicken in the late afternoon in advance of the cold front.
Your Friday morning drive looks wet. Showers may pause in the early afternoon before a line of storms arrives in the late afternoon. These storms will be out ahead of the actual surface cold front. The Storm Prediction Center believes some of those storms could produce large hail and damaging winds, so much of central Indiana is under a slight severe weather risk tomorrow.
That front is long gone by the time you wake up Saturday, with a partly cloudy sky and nice spring temps for the Gran Prix and for area outdoor graduation ceremonies. I am leaving in scattered storm chances Sunday and Monday, with our next best bet coming Tuesday, followed by highs in the 60s by Wednesday.
Still not cold enough to snow. It was on this date in 1923 that Indy measured 0.9 inches of snow. That’s the latest measurable snowfall on record for the city. I kept a low profile for a few days after that:)
INDY ALMANAC:
The average high today is 70 and the average low is 50. Records are 90 and 31. The sun rises at 6:38 and sets at 8:46.
PAUL’S PREVIOUS PREDICTION:
Yesterday’s high was 83. My forecast was 82.
