How sweet is today? On a hunch, I checked my post from exactly four months ago: “The coldest air in 20 years still dominates…with chills ranging from 30 to 35 below zero.” An afternoon update excitedly added “Indianapolis returned to positive territory just after noon today, ending a 34 hour stretch of subzero temps.”
So, today is sweet. Still some sunshine, and highs running from 80-84 across central Indiana. It’s the first 80 degree day since last October in most places, although Shelbyville hit the mark last month, and Bloomington did it earlier this week. Breezes today will be up to 30 mph in the midday and afternoon, and the same is possible tomorrow.
The big ridge above us keeping a lid on the atmosphere will break down Thursday night. Rain and storms still look likely Friday. The Storm Prediction Center now believes there is also a slight risk of hail and damaging winds.
The surface cold front helping to stir up Friday’s storms should be moving out by Saturday morning. A scattered shower or storm is possible this weekend, but I wouldn’t cancel plans, and I think it’s looks generally grand for the Gran Prix!
