What had been a historically quiet start to severe weather season ended quickly and violently Sunday, with a powerful tornado killing 16 people in suburbs west and north of Little Rock, Arkansas.
Meteorologists believe the tornado was a half mile wide at one point. It carved out an 80 mile long path of damage.
That twister was the biggest last night, but there were a couple of dozen other reports from the Plains. Another storm killed one person in Quapaw, Oklahoma, in the northeast corner of that state, before damaging homes over the border in Baxter Springs, Kansas.

Another significant outbreak, that could include strong tornadoes, is possible this afternoon and tonight in the Mid-South and Lower Miss. Valley. Severe weather could also impact parts of the Mid/Upper Miss. and Ohio Valleys, including Indiana. We will see rain this morning, and the sun could pop out – especially west of Indianapolis – and help stir the pot for storms late this afternoon and evening.
