Our Spring Break? Busted! Your newly-green lawn? Dusted!
The mild weather of the last four days yields to a cold front Monday morning and then there’s no place to go but down. Morning drive temps around 60 will fall to the 40s by afternoon drive. No severe weather is expected, but the winds will still be active. There was an overnight wind gust of 54 mph reported near Shelbyville.
It won’t rain all day, but the chance is there all day, and showers look likely this evening. Rain mixes with and changes to some snow after midnight. A dusting is possible on some surfaces. Tuesday will be mainly dry, but mainly cold. Tuesday morning chills will be in the teens.
High pressure moves overhead Tuesday night, clearing the sky, calming the wind, and setting a stage for frost. In fact the southern part of Indiana is under a Freeze Watch, since the growing season is considered to have begun in that area.
Temps will return to the 50s Wednesday and 60s Thursday. Another front arrives Friday with rain chances, and behind it – the upper 50s to low 60s. AKA: a little below average. Long term trends point to another good warm up the second half of next week. It will be awhile before we top last weekend, when highs hit 78 in Indy, and 80 in Shelbyville and Evansville.
