We’re coming to the end of the line for sunshine after today, so enjoy the blue sky while you can. A cold front will move through central Indiana today, stalling around the Ohio River by tonight. Several waves of low pressure will interact with that front from tonight through Friday. That sets the soggy stage for rain. Two to four inches of precipitation is possible from Wednesday through Friday. There is a slight risk of severe weather Thursday, as the front gets pulled back to the north, and we are in the warm sector of the storm until Friday afternoon.
Before we get to watering those future flowers of May: one more chance to play today. It should be mostly sunny Tuesday. That previously-mentioned front means there will be a range in highs, from the upper 50s in Kokomo, to around 60 in Lafayette, to the low 60s in Muncie, Indy, and Terre Haute. The mid 60s can be expected in Richmond, Bloomington, and Columbus.
Shower chances begin mid evening tonight, arriving first from the southwest. Periods of rain are likely Wednesday, with the storm chance kicking in Wednesday night. The severe stuff is possible then on Thursday, over all but the northern part of the state. The threats will probably be highest later in the day. The system will be exiting Friday afternoon, and the rain machine should shut down by Friday night. The weekend will be cooler and dry.
WIKI-POTEETIA: Blizzard Warnings and Tornado Warnings existed side-by-side a couple of times yesterday afternoon in South Dakota and Minnesota, with at least one confirmed tornado in Minnesota. On this date in 1987, a tornado touched down briefly during a snow squall on the south shore of White Fish Bay in Wisconsin.
