The month’s that about to end hasn’t featured typical temperatures. Today is only the fifth time in March Indianapolis will hit the 60s. It’s only the third time in March we will reach the mid to upper 60s. It was 68 on March 11, and 68 ten days later on March 21. Guess what? Ten days later than that…is today. Expect mid 60s this afternoon. The wind will increase through the afternoon, gusting to 30 mph.
Clouds will thicken in the afternoon, in advance of a cold front tonight. The front is trailing a big time low pressure system bringing blizzard conditions to the northern Plains today. There could be 10-20 inches of snow with 50 mph winds gusts from southeast Montana to northern Minnesota. Out like a lion!
Back home again in Indiana: the front might trigger a stray light shower in the evening or overnight. Behind the front, clouds decrease tomorrow, and it will still be in the upper 50s to mid 60s from north to south across the state.
That cold front will move back north toward central Indiana and stall out in the area from Wednesday through Friday, and there will be daily chances of showers and storms. The big threat is heavy rain. There could be 2-4 inches of precipitation through this period.
March came in like a lion and leaves a little more like a lamb. The first day of this month I was forecasting–what else–snow? The next day: 2.4 inches. That’s the most we’ve had this month. Another .7 has fallen since. The monthly total will be 3.1 inches. That’s a little over the 2.6 average, but well short of last year’s 14.5 inches.
