March 11, 1917 – A tornado tore through New Castle, Indiana and killed 22 people. Seventy-five buildings were destroyed with an additional 275 damaged. The path of the tornado was 1-2 blocks wide. Two railroad freight cars loaded with iron were picked up and hurled. A tornado in Cincinnati, Ohio killed 3 people.
March 11 2006, Phoenix’s record run for dry days finally ends at 143 days. The last measured rain fell on October 18, 2005. Not only did the rain break the dry spell, the 1.40 inches that fell was a record amount for the date.
