The sky will be bright and the wind will be light today. Enjoy the sunshine, and the elusive above-average high temperatures that range from the mid 40s in Lafayette and Kokomo to around 50 in Muncie, Indy and Richmond. Expect more melting of those parking lots piles and miscellaneous spots of snow.
The Indianapolis Airport is back to reporting no snow depth, but there is still 3 inches on the ground in Ft. Wayne, and 7 inches at the northern Indiana Weather Service office in North Webster. But enough, of snows past. What about the white stuff still to come?
A weak cold front moves through the state Saturday morning. Along and behind the front the sky will be cloudy and the rain showers scattered. It is possible that snow will mix in later Saturday afternoon and early Saturday evening, especially north of Indianapolis. No accumulation is expected. The next snow chance comes – again mixed with rain – Tuesday night. Rain’s the thing during the day Wednesday, but it appears a stronger cold front could arrive during the day, knocking down temps and paving the way for at least some light accumulations later Wednesday afternoon and evening. (In case you still are rooting for it: Indy needs another 3.6 inches to claim the all-time record for a “snow year.”)
In between the dreary days of Saturday and Wednesday I have good news. Sunday will be a nice normal day. Average temps, and strong March sunshine. Monday temps jump to the mid and upper 50s, and the 60s swing into town Tuesday. My forecast for Tuesday in Indy is 62, which is as warm as it’s been all year so far.
