You may know that I’m in Alaska with Pet Pals through early next week (#SpringBreak14) covering the Iditarod. I don’t have the time (or bandwidth, lol) to do justice to this weekend’s storm, but I want you to have all the latest info as always here at pp dot com. Here’s the Weather Service thinking about the Sunday storm. Bottom line – it continues to look nasty, and has trended toward being more of a mainly-snow event:
...THINGS GET CHALLENGING AS MODELS DIVERGE ON HOW FAR NORTH THE WARM AIR ALOFT WILL GET. AT ANY RATE...WAVES WILL MOVE ALONG THE STALLED FRONT DRAWING DEEPER MOISTURE TO CENTRAL INDIANA. FRONTOGENESIS SHOULD ALSO BE IN PLAY ALONG WITH UPPER JET DYNAMICS AND RESULT IN A SIGNIFICANT WINTER STORM STARTING SATURDAY NIGHT AND WINDING DOWN MONDAY MORNING. ...A MIX IS LIKELY ACROSS ALL BUT THE FAR NORTHERN FORECAST AREA UNTIL AFTER 06Z (1am) MONDAY...WHEN IT SHOULD START ALL TURNING TO SNOW BEFORE ENDING BY 18Z (1pm) MONDAY. OUR SOUTHERN COUNTIES SHOULD SEE MORE FREEZING RAIN AND SLEET AND ALSO POSSIBLE RAIN AT TIMES. THE FURTHER NORTH YOU GO...THE MORE THE PREDOMINATE TYPE WILL TRANSITION TO SLEET AND THEN SNOW. CAME UP WITH AROUND 6 TO 8 INCHES OF SNOW AND OR SLEET FROM NEAR THE INTERSTATE 70 CORRIDOR AND NORTH AND 2 TO 6 INCHES SOUTH WITH THE SMALLEST AMOUNTS...SOUTH OF VINCENNES AND SEYMOUR. MEANWHILE...FREEZING RAIN COULD EASILY ACCUMULATE TO A QUARTER INCH OR MORE SOUTH OF BLOOMINGTON.
