High pressure is keeping a lid on Indiana weather today. A sunny start gives way to thickening high clouds this afternoon. Those clouds are the first sign of an upper air disturbance arriving with a little bit of snow overnight. Around an inch is possible from Lafayette over to Muncie to Richmond. Less than an inch is likely around Indy, and I expect little or no accumulation will result in the southern third of the state.
Another upper air disturbance will increase clouds Tuesday evening, but doesn’t appear to tap any significant moisture. After that: the sky clears, and the temps tank.
It will be in the single digits Wednesday morning with sub-zero chills. Blame Canada, or at least, a Canadian high pressure system that brings bright and brisk weather Wednesday and Thursday.
WEDNESDAY MORNING LOWS:
0 Lafayette
3 Muncie
5 Indianapolis
6 Richmond
6 Terre Haute
8 Bloomington
10 Columbus
There are two snow storm clouds on the horizon for the moment. A southern system Friday needs to be watched. For the moment it looks like lighter snow amounts could be possible here. Another storm Sunday evening into Monday could bring bigger totals.
The thing is: we are still dealing with earlier snow. People in Lafayette are still talking about the mile-long ice jam late last week along Wildcat Creek. There may still be some localized flooding the next few days, and the Wabash River in Lafayette isn’t expected to fall below flood stage again until late Friday.
WIKI-POTEETIA: Dale Jr. won a rain-delayed NASCAR race, just like his Dad did here in Indy at the 1995 Brickyard. Rain delayed the start of the 1995 Brickyard. I remember the sky suddenly clearing in the middle of the afternoon. The track scrambled and dropped the green flag at 4:25, long after ABC television and many fans had given up.
INDY ALMANAC:
