Tired of all the snow? No problem–I’ve got some variety in the misery today. Sleet and freezing rain will mix with snow at times with a storm center cutting right across the center of the state. There is a chance of precipitation in the morning, but the biggest threat is this afternoon. A Winter Weather Advisory in in effect for much of Central Indiana from Noon to 7pm. It will be the second nasty afternoon commute in a row, following last Friday’s storm.
Final accumulations of 1-3 inches of snow and sleet (and also some ice) are likely around Terre Haute, the Indianapolis Metro area, and Muncie. An inch of two is likely from around Greenwood to Richmond. Snow and sleet will accumulate 2-4 inches from Lafayette to Kokomo. An inch or less of freezing rain and sleet should accumulate from Bloomington over to Columbus, where rain will cut into the totals. Making things worse: a southerly wind gusting to 30 mph this afternoon and tonight.
Sunshine is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday but much of the newly-arrived heat will go to melting more than a foot of snow. Still: highs will actually be at average levels. The melt down will accelerated Wednesday night, as temperatures stay above freezing and rain chances begin. Rain is likely Thursday and the Storm Prediction Center is already spotlighting southern Indiana for severe weather potential. It will be the warmest day of the year so far, with highs in the 50s. Behind the rain-maker, mid 40s Friday and Saturday before colder air begins to return Sunday, along with (wait for it) another snow chance.
