It’s almost the middle of February. Since the 15th of January there have been a grand total of *three* days with above average temps in Indianapolis.
In the past six days alone the average temperature has been 21 degrees below normal.
Yesterday was the 12th day this winter season of zero degrees or colder at the Indianapolis International Airport. The last time this occurred was in the winter of 1983-84 when there were 16 days of zero or lower readings. The record for a winter season is 24 days shared by the winters of 1962-63 and 1976-77.
The average temperature (as of yesterday) of 23.9 degrees for the meteorological winter months of December, January and February through February 10 is also the coldest in 30 years at this point, according to the National Weather Service. The average should go up a bit next week.
Before then? Two rounds of snow. One systems slides through Friday, with the potential for an inch or two during the day. System two poses a similar threat Saturday afternoon and evening.
Rain is likely Monday along with return of the 40s. Rain may mix with snow as it ends Tuesday morning.
