February 8, 1989 – A winter storm struck Cali, producing snow from Palm Springs to the beaches of Malibu. It created huge headaches on LA’s famous freeways. Sixteen cities in the western U.S. reported record low temperatures for the date.
February 8, 1987 – The Great Lakes reeled after a blizzard hit. Chicago sustained historic shoreline flooding and erosion from 12 – 18 foot high waves. Winds around southern Lake Michigan blew at 50 – 70 miles per hour. Winds gusted to 86 mph at Janesville WI and a foot of snow fell in Cleveland.
February 8, 1835 – A cold wave kills orange trees down to the roots in the southeastern U.S. The low in Tallahassee was 4. Jacksonville FL fell to 8 degrees and Savannah dropped to zero.
