(Updated graphic/forecast to end the Advisory and change the weekend snow forecast to “an inch or two” total.)
A Wind Chill Advisory is in effect, but not forever. It just SEEMS that way.
UNOFFICIAL LOWS SO FAR:
-14 Terre Haute
-13 Bloomington
-12 Zionsville
-11 Lafayette
-9 Shelbyville
-7 Indianapolis
-7 South Bend
-6 Richmond
-5 Muncie
The Advisory rolls ’til Noon, and the long Winter of 13-14 rolls on. Today will be officially the TENTH this season with a negative number in it. By comparison there have only been NINE days this year where the average daily temperature was above normal.
But none of it has been low enough to break any existing records. This morning’s record low is -11 in Indy. Can’t have everything.
High pressure is right on top of the Ohio Valley today, so that’s helped a little in keeping wind speeds down. It will help keep the skies mostly sunny.
Still cold tonight, but not quite as bitter this weekend. The weather attention shifts to a couple of weak waves wandering Indiana. Light snow could start very late tonight, and happen at any given point through at least Sunday morning. Total weekend accumulations will be from 1-3 inches.
A fresh shot of cold air arrives next week, but the next Sinister Southern System with access to Gulf Of Mexico looks to stay suppressed to the south of us. That means a dry forecast for much of the work week. Snow chances are back Thursday night into Friday.
WIKI-POTEETIA: Yesterday’s .03″ of snow puts the seasonal total at 44.5 inches. Indy is holding 7th place on the All Time Top Ten Chart. We are almost certain to slide (if you will) in the 6th – maybe 5th – this weekend.
INDY ALMANAC:
The average high today is 38 and the average low is 22. Records are 66 and -11. The sunrise time is 7:47 and the sun sets at 6:12.
PAUL’S PREVIOUS PREDICTION:
Yesterday’s afternoon high was 11. My forecast was 11.
