How low can I go? Today’s high temp will be 30 degrees cooler than it was Saturday! Sorry, but I don’t see any more 50 degree weather in central Indiana for a couple of weeks. A few flurries are possible this morning, mainly north and east of Indianapolis. The wind will be from the west at 5-10 mph. Highs will be in the low 20s in Lafayette, Terre Haute and Kokomo. Expect mid 20s in Indy, Muncie, Richmond, and Bloomington. A wave passes by to the north tonight, but should just generate clouds in central Indiana. No big snows nearby until New Years Eve. About the time the ball is dropping, snow will be moving into parts of Indiana. If you’re in Lafayette or Kokomo or Muncie you might get dusted in the first few hours of 2014. For most of central Indiana, the big snow chances kick in Wednesday afternoon, and reach their peak Wednesday night into Thursday morning. The most likely scenario has that part of Indiana from Indianapolis northward getting 1-3 inches. Places like Lafayette and Muncie could see 2-4 inches. The forecast closer to the Indiana/Michigan border is for up to 6 inches of accumulation. The storm could start with rain to the south and southeast of Indianapolis. Stay tuned – this system could change its holiday plans before it rolls into the state. You’ll get a chance to shovel out before another storm arrives Sunday. That one could bring a mix or snow and rain. So far the season the Indy snow total is 8.9 inches. That’s over the 7.4 inch average to this point, but under the 14.2 inches we’d had at this time last year, after two post-Christmas snow storms. INDY ALMANAC: The average high today is 36 and the average low is 21. Records are 67 and -14. The sunrise time is 8:06 and the sun sets at 5:30. PAUL’S PREVIOUS PREDICTION: Yesterday’s high was 45. My forecast was 44. INDY FORECAST: Today: Morning flurries. Partly to mostly cloudy. High 24. Tonight: Mostly cloudy. Low 18. Tuesday: Partly cloudy. High 30. New Years Eve: Mostly cloudy. Low 22. New Years Day: Snow likely, mainly in the afternoon. High 34. Wednesday Night: Snow likely. Low 23. Thursday: Chance of snow, mainly in the morning. Storm totals of 1-3 inches possible Indy northward. High 29. Thursday Night: Mostly cloudy with a chance of snow showers. Low 8. Friday: Mostly sunny. High 21. Friday Night: Partly cloudy. Low 15. Saturday: Partly cloudy. High 35. Saturday Night: Mostly cloudy. Low 28. Sunday: Chance of snow, possibly mixed with rain. High 35.]]>
