INDY ALMANAC: The average high today is 37 and the average low is 22. Records are 68 and -17. The sunrise time is 8:04 and the sun sets at 5:26. You might consider going to a Mall today even if you’re done shopping for Christmas. The body heat is free. Wind chills will struggle to get much above zero until almost lunch time. In the stores: more crowds. In the sky: less clouds. Today will be brighter than yesterday. Bright and brisk. The high will only hit the upper teens in Lafayette, Kokomo and Muncie. It should be right around 20 in Terre Haute and Lafayette, and into the low 20s in Columbus and Richmond. Yesterday’s flurries are gone, but snow showers are possible tomorrow. Tomorrow! Snow showers! December 25th! Yep, Christmas Day snow showers could dust the northern half of the state with minor accumulation. The clipper won’t get here tonight until after Santa does, but it will bring a chance through the day Wednesday. If you count a “White Christmas” as any day that has EITHER at least a trace of snow falling that day…or already on the ground that morning… then the odds of it around here are about 60 percent. Last year, for example, Indy did have a little snow on the ground. The biggest amount of Christmas Day snow on the ground was Christmas morning, 2004. Nine inches was reported. The biggest amount of snow FALLING on Christmas Day was 5.9 inches in 1909. The warmest Christmas day ever was 64, in 1893. The coldest was -4, during that brutal December in 1983. I remember having to work the morning show that week at WNDE radio and parking outside at the apartment complex we lived in. All I wanted for Christmas that year was a garage. I hope you find what you were hoping for. I wish you warmth. Merry Christmas!]]>
