A big pre-Christmas Weekend storm will bring 2-4 inches of rain to Central Indiana. A Flood Watch is in effect for late tonight into Sunday morning. The Storm Prediction Center has the southeastern corner of the state under a slight risk for severe thunderstorms tomorrow afternoon and evening. Much of central Indiana could hear thunder tomorrow. Our heaviest rain will fall (and thunder will roll) Saturday afternoon through early Sunday morning. Today’s rain won’t be heavy. In fact, there will be breaks between periods of showers, so put on your hip boots and enjoy temps jumping into the mid 50s in Lafayette, Kokomo, Muncie and Richmond. Indy should land just below 60, and Columbus right around it. Highs in the low 60s are expected today in Terre Haute and Bloomington. The Indy record high temp for the day is 66, btw. A cold front will slowly move through the state today, then stall near the Ohio River tonight. Low pressure will ride northeastward along the front Saturday, finally exiting Sunday. Because of the positioning of the front it will be a little cooler around Lafayette Saturday (the upper 30s to around 40) but even there the precip will be all liquid. Want some snow, ho-ho? A big strip of 6-10 snow should fall from Kansas through Western Missouri into Eastern Iowa and Southern Wisconsin…eventually into Northern Lower Michigan. The bulk of that will happen Saturday night through midday Sunday. Temps around here will still be milder Sunday morning, but drop into the 30s by afternoon. The worst of the water will be long gone, but there could be a few rain showers Sunday, and snow showers could mix in by afternoon and evening. With chances of flurries and snow showers Sunday Night and Monday – it is still possible we could have a dusting of snow on the ground for Christmas, although that wouldn’t qualify for the “official” level of an inch. WIKI-POTEETIA: The average precipitation for Indy the entire month of December is 3.17 inches. It’s possible we’ll get all that….Saturday. INDY ALMANAC: The average high today is 37 and the average low is 23. Records are 66 and -12. The sunrise time is 8:02 and the sun sets at 5:24. PAUL’S PREVIOUS PREDICTION: Yesterday’s high was 50.
