Same old…same cold today. Afternoon temps will be similar to yesterday, but there will be more clouds around, especially from Indianapolis northward. A cold front is bring snow to northern Indiana, with an Advisory around South Bend, and a chance of snow showers and flurries in the northern half of the state. Highs hit 26 in Muncie and Richmond, where you could get quickly dusted from a snow shower. It will be 23 with flurries in Lafayette, and 26 in Indy. Winds will also shift from the southwest to west today. They won’t be quite as bad as they were yesterdayThe cold, however, will be even worse behind that front tonight. A nice clear sky will let out all the heat, and we’ll have Thursday morning lows right around zero. The core of the coldest air is to our northwest. Lafayette should slip to sub-zero numbers. Wind chills around here will be between zero and ten below. Wind Chill Advisories and Warning are in place tonight for Chicago northward. Windy City wind chills could hit 25 below tonight, with 35-45 below possible in northern Minnesota and northern Wisconsin. Thursday will be bright and cold, with highs only around 20. Not quite as cold Thursday night, but the overall cooler than average trend rolls on until at least the middle of next week. Next weather problem: Snow Saturday. I continue to think we’ll see snow start mid to late evening Friday, accumulating through early to mid afternoon Saturday. A total of 2-4 inches is possible in central Indiana, with 3-6 possible north of Indianapolis. Amounts will be lower (finally!) in southern Indiana, and the snow could be mixed closer to the Ohio River. That Saturday storm may be our last snowy stop on the road to Christmas! INDY ALMANAC: The average high today is 40 and the average low is 25. Records are 66 and -9. The sun rises at 7:56 and it sets at 5:21. PAUL’S PREVIOUS PREDICTION: Yesterday’s high was 25. My forecast was 23. DETAILED INDIANAPOLIS FORECAST: Today: Partly sunny. High 26. Tonight: Mostly clear. Low 1. Thursday: Mostly sunny. High 21. Thursday Night: Mostly clear. Low 14.
