One more mild day! Then: temps…and then travelers… will hit the skids. Wednesday begins with the fog that never ended on Tuesday. Mild temps will start in the upper 40s and peak around 60 in Indy. Terre Haute, Bloomington and Columbus should get into the low 60s. The high will be 59 in Lafayette, Richmond and Muncie. Morning fog will be followed by the chance of scattered showers in the midday and afternoon. There is a slight chance tonight. A strong cold front will move through Indiana overnight, and it will be past us by the time you wake up tomorrow. The first thing you’ll notice is temperatures dropping during the day, from the mid 40s in the morning to the mid 30s by late afternoon. An area of low pressure moves in from the southwest and spreads spreading precipitation into central Indiana. Temperatures cooling at different rates in different levels of the atmosphere could cause a some rain mixed with sleet and/or snow Thursday afternoon. Any mix becomes all snow, all the time Thursday night into Friday morning. Snow should be more of a factor than ice in central Indiana, but if you have travel plans from Evansville southwest to around Arkansas tomorrow you could slip and slide. An inch or two of snow should be on the ground already for Friday morning’s drive. Yet another wave of low pressure brings a shot at another 2-4 inches of snow during the day Friday. By Friday afternoon the snow totals could be from 3-6 inches right around Indy down to around Bloomington. A swatch of 3-5″ snow should cover much of the I -70 corridor, including Richmond. Muncie should have a similar total, maybe closer to 4 or 5 inches. Lafayette is the farthest from the track of the low, and may be closer to 2 or 3 inches. Snow will end Friday night, but the cold is just beginning as temps tumble to the teens. You can shovel Saturday and be ready for another round of some snow later Sunday into early Monday. Then: one more batch of bitter breezes Monday evening through most of next week, with lows in the single digits and highs in the teens and 20s! INDY ALMANAC: The average high today is 43 and the average low is 28. Records are 70 and 5. The sunrise time is 7:50 and the sun sets at 5:21. PAUL’S PREVIOUS PREDICTION: Big miss yesterday.
